Hampshire College Theater Production-Anon(ymous)
Anon(ymous) is a new Hampshire College theater production written by playwright, Naomi Lizuka. The play is said to be a modern rendition of The Odyssey where “Anon, a war refugee, washes up on the shores of contemporary America, and discovers that he cannot remember his past. Anon begins his journey to locate his home and his mother, and in doing so is faced with the struggle to find his identity. This tumultuous and lyrical odyssey explores cultural displacement, immigration, exile, war, love, community, and memory.”
The performance is filled with beautifully choreographed fight scenes, one in which a character is stabbed with a high-heeled shoe. These scenes were actually choreographed by a professional fight choreographer not affiliated with Hampshire College who was asked to come in and work with the actors.
